Green Ideas & Ham Breakfast Forum Next Week on Sustainable Farming

Environment Minnesota

Environment Minnesota’s monthly breakfast forum Green Ideas & Ham will cover sustainable farming, a timely topic this fall harvest season. Over a locally sourced and sustainable breakfast, attendees will hear presentations and engage in conversation about a sustainable food system that reduces the pollution impacts so often associated with industrial agriculture.

In Minnesota, pollution from agriculture is a growing concern. How do we produce the food we need while cleaning up the waterways that continue to suffer pollution from nutrients, pesticides, fertilizers, and pathogens?

Several speakers will present their unique perspective on this challenging and important topic, and there will be time for audience questions and discussions.

Patrick Moore is the Executive Director of Clean up the River Environment (CURE), based in Montevideo, Minnesota. CURE is working to restore the Minnesota River, one of the most polluted tributaries to the Mississippi River. Patrick will talk about his group’s work to foster a common vision between different groups of people along the river, as well as solutions CURE is undertaking to clean up the river.

Dan Guenthner and Margaret Pennings own Common Harvest Farm, a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm that delivers vegetables to families in the Twin Cities metro. Dan and Margaret have grown sustainable food for 21 years. From the bluffs of the St. Croix River near their farm to the families in the Twin Cities that share Common Harvest’s bounty, they have helped create a community of people working towards sustainability. Dan and Margaret will be discussing their personal connection to nature and the land.

The event is on Tuesday, October 18, at 8:00 AM at the Red Stag Supperclub in northeast Minneapolis. Attendees should RSVP at www.environmentminnesota.org and the event costs $15.
